We’ve spent a lot of time teaching pool owners to be conservative with chlorine tablets.
And for good reason.
We don’t want you unnecessarily building up CYA all year long just because you’re afraid your chlorine might get low.
But here’s the thing:
The last few weeks have been a scorcher. We have been commonly seeing extremely low to no chlorine levels.
We were conservative with tablets so you could use them when you actually need them.
Now we’re in the middle of triple-digit Texas heat.
The sun is brutal. Pools are being used more. Water temperatures are climbing. And chlorine demand can increase dramatically.
So if you’ve spent the last several months hearing, “Be careful with those tablets,” don’t let that give you chlorine tablet PTSD.
It’s Okay to Use Them.
This is the time of year when your pool may need more help maintaining a consistent chlorine level.
Recommended chlorine may climb up from 2-5 ppm to 5-10 ppm.
Use your tablets.
Use them appropriately.
And keep testing your water so you know what your pool needs.
We still don’t recommend blindly dumping tablets into a pool all summer long. And we still want you watching your CYA.
But don’t let the fear of CYA cause you to under-sanitize your pool during triple-digit heat.
When your chlorine demand is high, tablets can be an important part of keeping up.
And when your pool needs a quick chlorine boost, that’s when liquid chlorine comes in.
Think of It This Way:
We were conservative in the cooler months, so you have room to be more aggressive when the Texas heat demands it.
Keep your chlorine up. Keep testing. Adjust as the conditions change.
And most importantly…
Enjoy your pool. That’s what it’s there for.
We have no idea if this heat will make it into September. It is always a coin toss. As soon as temperatures of your pool (night temperatures) go down into the 70’s we can dial down on the tablets.
We pride ourselves on being a long-term care and resource for your pool needs. And we are here year-round as the season change.
We hope everyone had a great first week back to school!!
