When the Texas summer heat settles in, your swimming pool can start to feel more like a hot tub than a place to cool off.
While you can’t control the weather, there are several things you can do to help keep your pool water more comfortable.
Here’s our checklist.
✅ Run Your Pump at Night
Water temperatures are usually lowest overnight. Running your pump after on a schedule between 1 am and 3 am circulates cooler air and can help reduce heat buildup. (Note: this increases pH)
✅ Add Water Features
Deck jets, fountains, waterfalls, and spray features increase evaporation, which naturally cools the water. (Note: this increases pH)
Even aiming a return jet toward the surface to create ripples can help. (Note: this increases pH)
✅ Use a Pool Aerator
Pool aerators are designed specifically to cool water by increasing evaporation. They’re an inexpensive option for pools that stay consistently warm. (Note: this increases pH)
✅ Provide Afternoon Shade
Trees, shade sails, pergolas, umbrellas, and covered patios can all reduce the amount of direct sunlight heating your pool.
Even a few hours of afternoon shade can make a noticeable difference.
✅ Consider a Pool Chiller
If your pool consistently reaches uncomfortable temperatures, a dedicated pool chiller may be worth the investment. These systems are designed to cool pool water and are especially popular in hot climates.
Sometimes a few simple changes can make all the difference.
Happy swimming!
